We arrived in Hong Kong the morning of Friday 13th after a good flight from NZ, we caught the airport bus into the madness, we were a bit tired but spent the morning wandering around the area near our hostel and taking in the sights. We checked into the hostel had a bit of a nap and then headed out for some early dinner of Dumplings, Rice and strange flavoured mince..
Having a rest in a park with my interesting flavoured tea (tastes a bit like sweat)
There were heaps of Hourly Hotels in our area, we couldnt decide if they were dodgy or not...
Puppies at a pet shop, there was also fish hanging in plastic bags, note the NO PHOTO sign, woops!
On Saturday we were feeling a lot more human after a good nights sleep so we caught the subway down to the waterfront that looked across to Hong Kong island, we wandered around the waterfront trying to get used to the heat, humidity and masses of people. We escaped the heat for a bit in the Art Museum and then found a giant mall and foodcourt for a lunch of dumpling soup, Yum. I dont normally like foodcourts but this one had some pretty interesting food to eat and people to watch!
We did very well to get this pic without any other tourists in the photo! As there were lots of people posing with it!
A silly photo but it sums up the jet-lagged over-heated haze we were in!!
After lunch we headed to Kowloon Park and wandered around - it was a lovely peaceful place apart from the McDonalds in the middle of the park!!
McDonalds in the middle of the Park!
Some crazy tourist
We headed back to Mongkok (where our hostel was) for dinner and a look around the Ladies Market, Sneaker Street etc. Dinner was at a Japanese Noodle place called delicious (I think)
View from outside our hostel, looking down to the street (we were on the 13th floor)
Dinner place, with a NZ meat truck outside
On Sunday 15th we took the Metro to Hong Kong Island, a very different place to where we were staying. Our area was shops and food stalls and general mayhem. This was a bit less frantic and more high rise offices. Nice to see the different parts of Hong Kong. We wandered around and came across a Buddhist Temple and some more markets, we also came across a Bar which claimed it was selling Botique NZ Beer - a nice idea we thought on a hot day. The Botique Beer turned out to be Monteiths and Tui!! Not what we imagined!! We had lunch at a noodle house before wandering around Hong Kong Park.
All building scaffolding is made from Bamboo
Yummy lunch
On Monday 16th we decided to head away from the shopping areas and take a trip to a Giant Buddah high up on the hills of Lantau Island. We took the subway and then a half hour cable car ride to a small very touristy village at the foot of the Buddah. We spent the morning looking around and enjoying the peaceful feeling of the place before having lunch at the temples vegetarian restaurant, another yummy lunch ;)
On Tuesday it was raining with thunderstorms, we had a lazy morning before heading out to do some shopping followed by the Temple Street night market in the evening were we had cheap beer and razor clams for dinner
On Wednesday 18th we headed out to the New Territories, we just chose a subway stop and got off. We found an amazing fish market and found a lot less english was spoken out there. We jumped back on the subway after exploring round and headed to a Nunnery, Park and Temple in east Kowloon. We then returned to pack for our big travel day the next day
Thursday 19th was a travel day and we now have arrived at Anna´s place in Köln. Hong Kong was great fun, a mad busy place with interesting food and every shop you could imagine. We are now enjoying a lazy morning in Köln before heading to the Haribo Shop this avo.
More adventures to come!!
