South Island - March 19th to April 9th

The week of March 19th - March 25th we spent a fair bit of time sorting and booking things for overseas travel, we still managed to get a camping trip mid week at the Twizel Canal and a bit of fishing.

The weekend of the 24th and 25th we were meant to be heading for a tramp with Juz, Rob and Emma but the forecast was for rain, so we spent the weekend around town, but managed to sneak in a walk at the beach on the Sunday,

On Sunday 25th we headed up to Christchurch to stay with Dad and get ready for our week long tramp, starting near Arthurs Pass up the Waimak and ending near Jackson on the West Coast. Monday morning we drove to the track start - Dad dropped us off and headed 40min up the road to drop off the car for the end of the journey. Aaron I spent the time killing sandflies while waiting for him to return. After a couple of hours dad returned and we headed up the Waimak for 4 hours to Carrington Hut

The next day we were up early as we had a big day ahead of us, we headed up a steep narrow creek to Harman Pass - boulder hopping and climbing around waterfalls to the Pass.

We carried on up the ridge in the mist towards Whitehorn Pass and the Arieal Tarns - where we stopped for lunch before returning to Harman Pass for the trip down to Julia Hut.

The walk down to Julia Hut was steep and slippery - and a bit of a challenge as the mist was hiding the track markers, after a look at the map we decided to just slip and slide down the creek - it seemed to work well, we arrived at the hut a bit tired after a 8.5 hour day but had seen some beautiful country

Wednesday 28th saw us walk down stream for a few hours before heading up a very steep side creek to Dunns Creek Hut, on the way we saw a Weka. Dunns Creek is not visited very frequently so the hut book was from 1991 and only 1/3 full! Nice to be in an area that not many had visited.

In the morning on Thursday we headed up Dunns Creek for a look, a very rugged wee creek but beautiful as well, on the way back to the hut we saw a pair of blue duck - nice to see some still around. That afternoon we headed back down the Creek to the Mid-Taipo Hut for the night.

Friday we walked down the Taipo River fishing as we went and out to the car and a beer at the local Jacksons Pub, a great trip with great weather, cheers Dad for a good trip - look forward to the next one when we come home from NZ!

The weekend was spent in Christchurch catching up with Mum and trying to fight a bit of the flu! I guess it was better to get it now before heading overseas.

On Thursday 5th we heading down to Lake Ohau - planning a camping and hunting trip up a creek behind Lake Ohau - unfortunately Aaron's flu turned into a tummy bug so we went to Plan B and headed to Mt Cook for the day (because of the amazing weather) before heading home for a better sleep.

On the way home we stopped off at Lake Ruataniwha (where we were married a year before) for some photos :) and Chocolate :)

On Sunday Aaron was feeling better so we headed to the Canals for a bit of Fishing and Camping before heading to the Fairlie Show on Easter Monday

We are now doing the last of the packing before heading to Hong Kong on Thursday, will update the blog when I next get a chance! Yay for adventures!!!
